Phosphorus Recovery from Wastewater: Bioavailability of P Bound to Calcareous Material for Maize (Zea Mays L.) Growth

نویسندگان

چکیده

(1) Phosphorus (P) is an essential plant nutrient, and P deficiency negatively affects growth development. Furthermore, a finite nonrenewable resource, there urgent need to recover from some of the important waste streams in society. Newly engineered calcareous materials (sol–gel coated cat litter (CATSAN®)) can bind wastewater decentralized treatment systems potentially enable recycling into agricultural production by direct addition saturated material. (2) The effects two P-enriched as fertilizers for maize (Zea mays L.) were investigated mesocosm experiment. We compared fertilization with at rates 6, 12, 25, 50, 100 kg ha−1 yr−1 commercial NPK fertilizer. (3) had significant positive effect on height, biomass, maximum light-saturated photosynthetic rate, respiration total content biomass. However, plants fertilized fertilizer performed significantly better majority measured parameters identical rates. (4) bioavailability bound material was very low. studied has potential be used part solution remove subsequently recycle wastewater.

Maize (Zea mays L.).

Agrobacterium tumefaciens-mediated transformation is an effective method for introducing genes into maize. In this chapter, we describe a detailed protocol for genetic transformation of the maize genotype Hi II. Our starting plant material is immature embryos cocultivated with an Agrobacterium strain carrying a standard binary vector. In addition to step-by-step laboratory transformation proced...

Partial purification of tightly bound mitochondrial hexokinase from maize (Zea mays L.) root membranes.

In mammals, hexokinase (HK) is strategically located at the outer membrane of mitochondria bound to the porin protein. The mitochondrial HK is a crucial modulator of apoptosis and reactive oxygen species generation. In plants, these properties related to HK are unknown. In order to better understand the physiological role of non-cytosolic hexokinase (NC-HK) in plants, we developed a purificatio...

Growth and Yield Response of Maize (Zea mays L.) to Different Rates of Nitrogen and Phosphorus Fertilizers in Southern Nigeria

The effect of twelve different rates of nitrogen and phosphorus fertilizers on growth and yield of maize (Zea mays L.) in southern Nigeria was evaluated between June and October, 2007. The results of the study showed that application of 120kgN/ha + 0kgP/ha and 60kgN/ha + 40kgP/ha significantly increased the growth of maize than other treatments. The application rate of 120kgN/ha +40kgP/ha signi...

Association Mapping for Enhancing Maize (Zea mays L.) Genetic Improvement

Association mapping through linkage disequilibrium (LD) analysis is a powerful tool for the dissection of complex agronomic traits and for the identifi cation of alleles that can contribute to the enhancement of a target trait. With the developments of high throughput genotyping techniques and advanced statistical approaches as well as the assembling and characterization of multiple association...

A strategy for assembling the maize (Zea mays L.) genome

UNLABELLED Because the bulk of the maize (Zea mays L.) genome consists of repetitive sequences, sequencing efforts are being targeted to its 'gene-rich' fraction. Traditional assembly programs are inadequate for this approach because they are optimized for a uniform sampling of the genome and inherently lack the ability to differentiate highly similar paralogs. RESULTS We report the developme...
